Polish President Cancels Meeting with Orban Over Putin Talks
BREAKING: Poland’s President Karol Nawrocki has just cancelled a critical meeting with Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orban following Orban’s controversial discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This urgent decision reflects rising tensions in Europe amidst ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Officials in Warsaw confirmed that Nawrocki’s planned meeting, set for Wednesday, July 19, 2023, has been limited to a summit of the Visegrad Group in Ostrzyhom, Hungary. The cancellation comes in the wake of Orban’s hours-long meeting with Putin on Friday, July 14, which has drawn widespread condemnation from European leaders and intensified scrutiny over Hungary’s ties with Russia.
Nawrocki’s party, known for its staunch support of Kyiv, has faced mounting questions about its alliance with Orban, who has consistently challenged EU sanctions against Russia and maintained close economic relations. In a post on X, Polish Secretary of State Marcin Przydacz stated, “In connection with the visit to Moscow carried out by Prime Minister Viktor Orban and its context, President K. Nawrocki decided to limit the program of his visit to Hungary.”
The fallout from Orban’s Moscow visit has broader implications, as Poland closely borders Ukraine and plays a pivotal role in European security. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga praised Nawrocki’s decision, calling it “a very good decision” that underscores Poland’s commitment to European unity and security at a critical moment.
This latest development signals a potential shift in Eastern European politics, as countries grapple with the implications of Orban’s pro-Russian stance. The situation remains fluid, and all eyes are now on the upcoming Visegrad Group summit, where the leaders of Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia will convene.
As tensions escalate, the response from European allies and the implications for EU policy towards Russia will be closely monitored. The international community awaits further updates on this developing story, which may redefine alliances in the region.
Stay tuned for more urgent updates as this situation evolves.
