Orit Shimoni to Perform at Brandon’s Park Community Centre This Sunday
URGENT UPDATE: Canadian singer-songwriter Orit Shimoni is set to perform an exciting concert at Brandon’s Park Community Centre this Sunday, October 15, 2023, at 7:30 PM. This performance marks her first show in Brandon and the second-to-last stop on her highly anticipated Home Routes tour.
Shimoni, a renowned nomadic artist, has been captivating audiences across the Prairies since late November, bringing her unique folk music to rural communities. “You can really feel the sense of community in the gatherings,” she shared, emphasizing the intimacy of smaller venues compared to urban centers.
The Home Routes initiative, established to deliver world-class music to rural audiences, has become a lifeline for musicians and communities alike. With concerts ranging from 350 to 700 annually across Canada, the organization aims to revive Brandon’s once-thriving folk scene, which suffered during the COVID-19 pandemic. “We’re really, really happy to have Brandon back as a host community for Home Routes,” said Drew Caldwell, President of Home Routes.
Shimoni expressed her enthusiasm for the upcoming performance, stating, “I’m having the time of my life. I love doing this.” Attendees can expect a night filled with music from her extensive discography, including her latest EP, “Birds,” which she released in August.
The emotional impact of live performances is paramount for Shimoni. “That joy in the room is something I can’t manufacture,” she explained. The connection with her audience and their shared experiences through music serve as powerful reminders of the healing power of art.
Shimoni’s journey as a full-time artist began in 2010, and she has since played hundreds of gigs, from cafes to festivals. After facing significant challenges during the pandemic, including a shift to virtual performances, she released her 12th album, “Winnipeg,” in October 2023, earning her a nomination for the 2025 Canadian Folk Music Award for best solo artist.
As the concert approaches, anticipation builds within the community. “There’s a strong audience base, and we are reawakening that base,” Caldwell noted. This Sunday’s concert promises to be an unforgettable evening, filled with laughter, music, and a sense of togetherness.
For those looking to enjoy a night of enchanting folk music and community spirit, Orit Shimoni’s concert at the Park Community Centre is not to be missed.
