Grade 5 and 6 students from Green Acres School actively participated in a charitable initiative on December 5, 2023, by packing bags of candy for Christmas hampers. These hampers will be distributed through the Brandon-Westman Christmas Cheer Registry, located at the intersection of Rosser Avenue and Seventh Street in Brandon, Manitoba. This year, a record 1,710 families have registered for assistance, marking an increase from the 1,551 families that sought support last year.

In a call to action, the registry is seeking approximately 200 individuals or groups to adopt a family and prepare a Christmas hamper that aligns with the registry’s offerings. Interested parties can visit the Brandon-Westman Christmas Cheer website to sign up and will receive a list of items needed to fill the hampers.

The registry has also issued a request for volunteers to assist with the delivery of hampers within the city on December 17 and 18, 2023. The packing of hampers commenced on November 27, allowing ample time for the community to contribute to this vital cause.

Brandon Mayor Jeff Fawcett joined the effort, helping to fill hampers alongside local resident Samantha Falloon. Their involvement highlights the community spirit that defines this initiative, as residents come together to support those in need during the holiday season.

The Christmas Cheer Registry provides an essential service, ensuring that families who may be struggling can enjoy a festive meal and gifts. The increase in registrations this year underscores the importance of community support and the need for continued involvement from local residents.

As the holiday season approaches, the efforts of schools, local leaders, and community members showcase the spirit of giving that characterizes this time of year. By adopting a family or volunteering, individuals can make a significant impact on the lives of those who may be facing difficulties.

For those interested in supporting this initiative, further details are available on the Brandon-Westman Christmas Cheer website, where individuals can learn how to get involved and contribute to making Christmas brighter for families in the region.
