Naden Band Concert Delivers Holiday Joy and Gifts to Families
The annual Naden Band Christmas Concert is set to bring holiday cheer to families in Victoria, British Columbia, while supporting local children in need. The concert, in partnership with The Salvation Army, takes place on December 8 and 9, 2023, at the Royal Theatre. This year marks the 47th annual event, which combines festive music with a call for community support in the form of toy donations.
What began as a singular concert has evolved into a cherished tradition for the Greater Victoria area. The Naden Band, a military ensemble known for its musical excellence, collaborates with The Salvation Army to host a concert that not only entertains but also uplifts the community. The event has successfully placed thousands of toys in the hands of children who may otherwise go without gifts during the holiday season.
According to Sipili Molia, a communications representative for The Salvation Army British Columbia Division, the concert exemplifies the power of partnership. “That’s the power of partnership – the Naden Band brings their extraordinary talent, and our community brings their extraordinary hearts. Together, we’ve created something truly special,” she stated in a news release.
The impact of this initiative extends beyond the toys themselves. The Salvation Army’s Christmas Assistance Program aims to provide families not only with gifts but also with dignity and hope. Families in need can benefit from the program, which reassures them that their community is invested in their well-being.
“This concert represents everything we value as a band – excellence, service, and connection,” said Lt. Benjamin Van Slyke, a representative of the Naden Band. He emphasized the significance of the event, stating, “When you see families filling the theatre, toys in hand, ready to help their neighbours – that’s when you truly understand the spirit of the season.”
The concert, titled A Festive Celebration, will feature a repertoire of seasonal favourites performed by the 35-member ensemble. Tickets are priced at $15 for main floor seating and $10 for upper balcony seating. Attendees are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy with a suggested value of $25 to support the toy drive.
Tickets are now available for purchase by phone at 250-386-6121 or online at www.rmts.bc.ca. The Naden Band Christmas Concert promises to be a memorable event, combining the joy of music with the spirit of giving, ensuring that many children in the community experience the magic of Christmas morning.
