UPDATE: A tragic collision in Burnaby has resulted in a fatality, sparking an extensive police investigation that has disrupted traffic for hours. The incident occurred just after 8 a.m. on Sprott Street, near the Scotia Barn sports complex, according to Burnaby RCMP.
Authorities have closed a nearly 1-kilometre stretch of Sprott Street, affecting the area between Norland and Kensington avenues, as investigators gather crucial evidence. Eyewitness images reveal police focusing on the wheels of a semi-truck with two trailers attached, suggesting its involvement in the crash. Numerous evidence markers are visible along the road, particularly near the entrance to Highway 1, indicating the gravity of the situation.

While the RCMP confirmed the crash was fatal, they have yet to release detailed information regarding the circumstances surrounding the collision. In their initial statement, police promised “a more fulsome update,” but as of 7 p.m., no additional details have been provided.
This developing story highlights the urgent need for caution on the roads and the tragic consequences of traffic incidents. Stay tuned for more updates as the investigation unfolds and authorities work to piece together the events leading to this devastating crash.
