on

The emergency department at St. Marys Memorial Hospital will temporarily reduce its operating hours this weekend due to ongoing health human resource shortages, according to the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance (HPHA). The emergency room will close at 5 p.m. on March 15, 2024, and is set to reopen at 7 a.m. on March 16, 2024, when normal 24-hour service is expected to resume.

Officials urge anyone needing immediate medical attention to call 911. Paramedics will continue to respond to emergencies and transport patients to the nearest available emergency department to ensure access to urgent care.

For individuals with non-urgent health concerns, Health Connect Ontario is available at 811, providing support around the clock.

Alternative Emergency Care Options Available

Residents should be aware of alternative 24-hour emergency departments nearby. Hospitals marked with an asterisk advise checking ahead to confirm their hours of operation. This temporary measure aims to maintain patient safety and care quality during this period of staffing challenges.

HPHA officials acknowledge the difficulties posed by health human resource shortages, emphasizing their commitment to addressing these issues. The organization continues to explore solutions to enhance staffing levels and ensure consistent access to emergency services for the community.

As the situation develops, further updates will be provided to keep the public informed.
