UPDATE: A fire at the Balmoral Apartments on Bruce Avenue in Sudbury has left one resident displaced and a beloved pet lost. The incident unfolded early this morning, around 7 a.m., prompting immediate evacuation of the building as multiple fire crews responded to the scene.

Firefighters swiftly arrived, with four Sudbury-area fire stations participating in the operation. According to Deputy Fire Chief Jesse Oshell, the fire was contained to a kitchen in one unit and is not considered suspicious. “(The fire) was in one unit; it was contained to the unit in the kitchen,” Oshell stated in an interview with CTV News.

The fire alarm was audible from outside the building, heightening concern among residents. Fortunately, fire crews managed to extinguish the flames quickly, allowing most residents to return to their homes shortly after the incident. However, one resident is now left without a home, and tragically, they lost their cat in the fire.

As investigations continue, the community is rallying to support those affected. Residents are urged to check for updates as more information becomes available.
