UPDATE: A tragic incident in Surrey, B.C. has resulted in the death of a 9-year-old child following a collision with a large vehicle. The Surrey Police Service confirms the child succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash that occurred on September 22, 2023, around 2:35 PM near an elementary school in the Newton neighbourhood.

Authorities report that the child was struck by what police describe as a large cube van-style vehicle. Immediate life-saving efforts were performed at a local hospital; however, the child was pronounced dead on the morning of September 24.
