Mike Soroka Signs One-Year Deal with Arizona Diamondbacks
Canadian pitcher Mike Soroka has signed a one-year contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks, according to reports from ESPN’s Jesse Rogers and Jeff Passan. The agreement marks a significant step for the 28-year-old right-hander as he looks to revitalize his career following a series of injuries.
Recent Performance and Career Background
Last season, Soroka spent most of his time with the Washington Nationals before being traded to the Chicago Cubs at the trade deadline. Throughout the 2025 season, he made 22 appearances, with 17 of those being starts, finishing with a 4.52 ERA. His performance during the playoffs, however, was less than stellar, as he recorded a troubling 16.2 ERA in just 1.2 innings pitched.
Once regarded as a top prospect with the Atlanta Braves, Soroka showcased his potential in 2019 when he was named an All-Star and finished sixth in Cy Young voting. However, he faced significant setbacks, missing the entire 2021 and 2022 seasons due to injuries. His recent struggles have raised questions about his ability to return to form.
Impact on the Diamondbacks’ Roster
As Soroka joins the Diamondbacks, he enters a pitching staff in transition. The team is currently navigating changes, particularly with their ace, Zac Gallen, testing the free agent market. Soroka’s addition could provide the Diamondbacks with a much-needed boost, especially if he can regain the form that once made him a standout pitcher.
The Diamondbacks hope that Soroka’s experience and potential will enhance their rotation as they aim for a competitive position in the upcoming season. As the off-season progresses, all eyes will be on Soroka to see how he adapts to his new surroundings in Arizona and whether he can overcome the challenges that have plagued him in recent years.
