URGENT UPDATE: A boil water advisory is currently in effect for the Town of Collingwood, compelling residents to urgently stock up on bottled water and limit their water usage. The advisory was implemented after a significant water main break occurred at the intersection of Pretty River Parkway and Hume Street on October 27, 2023.

Repair efforts concluded just before 3 a.m. on Saturday, but town officials report that water safety cannot be confirmed until samples collected from the site are analyzed by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit. Results from this analysis are expected after the weekend, raising concerns that the advisory could remain in effect for up to five days.

Residents are urged to conserve water usage due to the substantial loss caused by the break. This includes households, as well as businesses in the area, particularly restaurants and bars, which will remain closed during the advisory period.

To assist residents, the town has set up two bottled water distribution stations. These are located at the Central Park Arena on Patterson Street and the Royal Canadian Legion on Ontario Street. Both stations will operate from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. until further notice, targeting those unable to boil water for consumption.

The community is advised to stay tuned for updates from local authorities as they assess the situation. Residents are reminded that access to safe drinking water is critical, and they should take precautions while waiting for the advisory to be lifted.

As the situation develops, officials are committed to providing timely updates to ensure public safety. This advisory highlights the importance of preparedness in the face of unexpected infrastructure challenges.
