UPDATE: A man in eastern Prince Edward Island is facing additional charges after allegedly backing a stolen truck into a store last month. The incident at RJ’s Country Store in Mount Stewart occurred on January 13, 2023, when a stolen pickup truck was used to ram into the front of the building around 3 a.m., causing significant damage.

According to the Kings District RCMP, two suspects entered the store but fled without taking anything of significant value. Later that day, police linked the stolen truck to a report from Montague and arrested a man and woman in Summerside after finding the vehicle.

The accused, Christopher Wayne Rush, age 34, was initially arrested and charged. However, on January 22, he was apprehended again for allegedly violating court-ordered conditions by contacting a person he was prohibited from approaching. Following this, he was remanded into custody on January 27 due to concerns over repeat offenses and public safety.

Authorities confirm Rush is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday and again on February 18. According to Cpl. Gavin Moore of the P.E.I. RCMP, “Remanding a person into custody is not the norm with every charged accused. It occurs when there are sufficient concerns regarding repeat offenses, court attendance, or public safety.”

This developing situation raises significant concerns about safety and repeat criminal behavior in the community. Residents are urged to remain vigilant as police continue their investigation into this alarming incident.
