Cyclist Killed, Two Injured in Okanagan Granfondo Incident

A tragic incident during the annual Okanagan Granfondo cycling event resulted in the death of one cyclist and serious injuries to two others. The collision occurred just before noon on September 10, 2023, on White Lake Road near St. Andrew’s Drive, which is part of the race route. The Penticton Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) reported that they were on the scene responding to a serious motor vehicle incident involving participants of the race.
Later in the day, police issued a statement confirming that one cyclist had been pronounced deceased at the scene. The RCMP also noted that two additional cyclists had sustained serious injuries and were transported to local hospitals for medical treatment. The exact timing of the incident has not been disclosed, and police have not released any details regarding the driver involved in the collision.

The investigation into the incident remains active, and White Lake Road has been closed to facilitate the inquiry.
