Environment Canada has issued a special air quality statement for Ottawa due to wildfire smoke from northern Ontario, impacting visibility and air quality in Canada’s capital. The advisory, released on Monday morning, cautions residents about the potential health effects of poor air quality. It recommends limiting outdoor activities and sports during this time, highlighting the risks associated with inhaling smoke.

As the smoke lingers, the advisory also reiterates an ongoing heat warning in the region. Temperatures are expected to reach a high of 32 C during the day, but with humidity, it will feel more like 40 C. Overnight, the city will experience little respite, with temperatures remaining around 23 C.

Extended Heat and Humidity Warning

The heat advisory issued by Environment Canada warns that southern Ontario will endure hot and humid conditions throughout much of the week. The combination of high temperatures and humidity poses a significant risk to health, especially for vulnerable populations such as the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions.

The agency forecasts a shift in weather patterns late this week, which may bring relief from the heat and humidity by Thursday night. Until then, residents are advised to take precautions to stay cool and hydrated.

In light of these conditions, local authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant. The recommendations emphasize the importance of staying indoors during peak heat hours and ensuring proper hydration.

As Ottawa grapples with these environmental challenges, residents are reminded to stay informed through updates from Environment Canada and local health officials.
