HBO has officially commenced filming for its highly anticipated adaptation of the beloved *Harry Potter* series, announcing a diverse cast for key roles. The studio revealed its lead actors on May 27, 2023, confirming that newcomer Dominic McLaughlin will portray Harry Potter, alongside Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. This marks a significant transition from the original film franchise, which starred Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint.

The casting announcement has generated excitement, as the new trio joins an impressive lineup of established actors. Among them are Louise Brealey, who will take on the role of Madam Hooch, and Anton Lesser, known for his role in *Andor*, as Garrick Ollivander. These characters are essential to the story, adding depth to the magical world of Hogwarts.

In a statement, showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod expressed their enthusiasm for the new cast. They stated, “After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron. The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen.”

Adding to the excitement, more cast members were announced on July 14, 2023. Katherine Parkinson will portray Molly Weasley, taking over from Julie Walters. Bel Powley has been cast as Petunia Dursley, while Daniel Rigby will play her husband, Vernon Dursley. The series aims to present a younger cast, a notable shift from the original films.

Amos Kitson will play Dudley Dursley, while Rory Wilmot has been confirmed as Neville Longbottom. In addition, Bertie Carvel will portray Cornelius Fudge, the Minister for Magic. The character of Draco Malfoy has been cast with newcomer Lox Pratt, known for his upcoming role in the BBC’s *Lord of the Flies* adaptation. Supporting roles have also been filled by newcomers Leo Earley, Alessia Leoni, and Sienna Moosah, who will portray Seamus Finnigan, Parvati Patil, and Lavender Brown, respectively.

The series is also set to feature John Lithgow as Professor Dumbledore, a role previously played by Richard Harris and Michael Gambon. Lithgow’s ability to convey both warmth and depth is expected to bring new life to the character. Similarly, Nick Frost will step into the shoes of Hagrid, while Paapa Essiedu has been tapped to portray Severus Snape, a role made iconic by the late Alan Rickman.

As anticipation builds, there are also rumors regarding the casting of Lord Voldemort. Reports suggest that Cillian Murphy, fresh off an Oscar win for his role in *Oppenheimer*, may take on this challenging role. If confirmed, this would mark a significant moment for the series as it seeks to redefine classic characters for a new generation.

The *Harry Potter* TV series promises to explore the rich narrative of J.K. Rowling’s universe, bringing together a mix of fresh talent and seasoned actors. With filming now underway in the UK, fans can expect to see a new interpretation of this beloved story that has captivated audiences for decades.
