Malin Åkerman is stepping into a daring new role as Margo Banks in the upcoming adaptation of the bestselling novel, “The Hunting Wives.” The series, set to premiere on July 21, 2024, on both Crave and the USA Network, explores the complex dynamics of small-town Texas socialites, with Åkerman’s character at the center of the drama.

Born in Sweden and raised in Ontario, Åkerman’s career spans a diverse array of genres, from action films like “Watchmen” to acclaimed comedies such as “Childrens Hospital”. In “The Hunting Wives,” she portrays a bold, sexually liberated character that challenges traditional norms surrounding relationships and identity.

Åkerman describes Margo as a character with multiple dimensions, revealing her complexity throughout the series. The story revolves around a shy mother, Sophie, played by Brittany Snow, who finds herself entwined with Margo’s hard-partying social circle. Åkerman notes, “She is such a — the only way to really describe it is juicy. She’s everything that you want in a character.”

“The Hunting Wives” dives deep into themes of sexuality and freedom, with Åkerman appreciating the opportunity to portray a character who embraces her desires without shame. “I think lines should be blurred in that area. It’s just human,” she explains. “There are all these rules and definitions that, personally, I’ve always felt should be broken down.”

The series promises not just entertainment but also social commentary, with Åkerman highlighting the importance of destigmatizing conversations about relationships. “I love the freedom that Margo has with her body and with who and what she wants to be,” she adds.

Ákerman also shared insights about Texan culture during filming. “The higher the hair, the closer to God,” she remarked, indicating some of the unique cultural nuances she encountered.

Reflecting on her personal journey, Åkerman offers advice to her younger self, emphasizing the importance of asserting one’s needs. “It’s OK to say no,” she states, acknowledging her past as a people pleaser. She recalls the worst piece of advice she received as a young model: “Wear this big padded push-up bra and you’ll get more jobs. I was like, ‘Oh, that doesn’t sound like the right thing to say to 17-year-olds.’”

Åkerman finds hope in the next generation, particularly her son, whom she describes as emotionally mature and open. “He’s a 12-year-old boy who’s very in touch with his feelings,” she says. This awareness extends to his peers, whom she admires for their ability to communicate openly about their emotions.

With a background as a professional figure skater, Åkerman surprises many when she showcases her skating skills, a talent she honed during her competitive years in Canada. Living in Los Angeles, she has adapted to local culture but retains her Canadian roots, humorously noting her tendency to apologize, even in minor social interactions.

When asked about a moment she would choose to relive forever, Åkerman reflects on the birth of her son, describing it as a profoundly life-changing experience. “It’s really a wild experience to have a human come out of your body!” she exclaims.

As “The Hunting Wives” prepares to debut, Åkerman’s portrayal of Margo Banks promises to captivate audiences, offering both entertainment and a thoughtful exploration of modern relationships.
