White House Threatens to Cancel The View Over Joy Behar’s Remarks

The White House has threatened to cancel the long-running daytime talk show, The View, following co-host Joy Behar‘s recent criticism of U.S. President Donald Trump. During a segment on the show, Behar addressed Trump’s comments regarding former President Barack Obama and suggested that Trump’s reactions stem from jealousy.
On March 15, 2024, Behar and her co-hosts discussed Trump’s claims about Obama, which included accusations that Obama was the “ringleader” of a conspiracy related to Russia. This statement prompted Obama to issue a rare denial of what he termed Trump’s “bizarre allegations.” Behar seized the opportunity to challenge Trump directly, saying, “First of all, who tried to overthrow the government on Jan. 6? Who was that again? That was not Obama.”
Behar continued with her critique, adding, “The thing about him is he’s so jealous of Obama, because Obama is everything that he is not: trim, smart, handsome, happily married, and can sing Al Green’s song ‘Let’s Stay Together’ better than Al Green.”
In response, White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers issued a statement to Entertainment Weekly, labeling Behar an “irrelevant loser suffering from a severe case of Trump derangement syndrome.” The statement hinted at the possibility of The View being “pulled” from the airwaves, urging Behar to reflect on her own sentiments towards Trump’s popularity.
The tension comes shortly after CBS canceled The Late Show With Stephen Colbert amid its own political controversy. Following that cancellation, Rogers noted the political climate, stating, “The partisan left’s ritualist wailing and gnashing of teeth over Colbert is quite revealing.”
Additionally, the backdrop of these events includes allegations against CBS’s parent company, Paramount Global, which has been criticized for potentially trying to appease Trump due to its pending sale to Skydance Media. This sale requires approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), adding further complexity to the situation.
The FCC chair, Brendan Carr, took to social media to comment on the fallout, expressing that such reactions from the political left show how “they’re acting like they’re losing a loyal DNC spokesperson that was entitled to an exemption from the laws of economics.”
While the spokesperson for The View did not directly address Rogers’ remarks, they contested the assertion that the show is experiencing low ratings. They highlighted that the program is currently “up in total viewers and women 18-49” and has reached its highest viewership in four years. Furthermore, they noted that The View ranks No. 1 among all network daytime talk shows and news programs in total viewers for the fifth consecutive season.
As this political drama unfolds, the implications for both the show and the broader media landscape remain to be seen, with the potential for significant impacts on viewership and political discourse in the United States.
