Urgent Alert: Counterfeit ‘Dillies’ with Fentanyl Analog in Kamloops

URGENT UPDATE: Health officials in Kamloops, B.C. have issued a critical warning about counterfeit hydromorphone tablets, which are currently circulating in the area and pose an extreme risk of overdose. The counterfeit pills contain unknown quantities of a dangerous fentanyl analog known as N-propionyl para-fluoronorfentanyl, according to a public alert released by Interior Health on Thursday, October 5, 2023.
Officials emphasize that these fake tablets do not contain hydromorphone, urging the public to be vigilant about the potential risks of purchasing drugs outside of licensed pharmacies. “Be aware of the risk of fakes if not purchasing from a pharmacy,” the health authority warned in their announcement.
The counterfeit drugs, often misrepresented as Dilaudid—the brand name for hydromorphone—are being sold on the street under the alias “dillies.” Interior Health has released images of these counterfeit tablets as part of their public safety campaign, urging anyone in possession of similar-looking pills to have them tested before consumption.
The rise in counterfeit drugs containing potent substances like fentanyl analogs is alarming for the community, as they can lead to unintentional overdoses, significantly increasing the health risks for users. With the opioid crisis continuing to evolve, officials are stressing the importance of awareness and caution.
As of now, there have been no reported overdoses linked specifically to these counterfeit pills in Kamloops, but the potential for harm is high. Residents are urged to report any suspicious activity related to drug sales and to seek immediate medical help if they or someone they know may have ingested these counterfeit tablets.
Next steps include increased surveillance by local authorities and further public education on the risks associated with counterfeit drugs. The community is encouraged to stay informed and take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their loved ones.
For those who may have questions or need assistance, Interior Health has set up a hotline for immediate support and guidance. The urgency of this situation cannot be overstated—stay safe, stay informed, and do not take risks with your health.
