Plano Library Unveils Exciting Kids’ Programs for Summer Fun

The Plano Library has announced a series of engaging events for children, scheduled from late July through early August. These programs aim to spark creativity and learning among young participants, offering opportunities for exploration and social interaction in a fun environment.

Upcoming Programs and Activities

The lineup includes a variety of activities designed to cater to different interests and age groups. On Monday, July 28, the library will host “Legos at the Library” from 2 to 3 p.m. and again from 6 to 7 p.m.. Participants can expect a vibrant atmosphere where they can unleash their creativity using provided Legos. This event is suitable for all ages, although children under 6 must be accompanied by an adult.

On Tuesday, July 29, the “Preschool Art Explorers” program will take place from 6 to 6:45 p.m. and then again on Wednesday, July 30, from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m.. This event invites independent children aged 3 to 5 to explore various artistic materials and create their own masterpieces. Registration is necessary and can be completed by calling 630-552-2025.

Another highlight is “Bookworms,” happening on Tuesday, August 5, during two sessions: 5 to 5:45 p.m. and 6:30 to 7:15 p.m.. This program allows children in grades 1 to 4 to enjoy a story, participate in crafts, and select books to read—all without adult supervision. Registration is required for this program as well.

Interactive Learning Opportunities

Also on August 5, the “Pizza and Pages” gathering will occur from 5 to 5:45 p.m.. Participants aged 7 to 10 will read the same book prior to the meeting, engage in discussions, and enjoy pizza together. This event is a delightful way for children to connect over literature while enjoying a meal. Registration is also mandatory.

On Tuesday, August 12, the library will host “Junk Drawer STEM” sessions—one for ages 6 to 8 from 1 to 1:45 p.m. and another for ages 9 to 12 from 2 to 2:45 p.m.. This program, presented by the University of Illinois Extension 4-H, focuses on exploring engineering principles and basic physics through hands-on projects using common household materials. Participants will tackle various challenges, fostering an understanding of construction and design.
