URGENT UPDATE: The highly anticipated Keating Flyover is set to open to traffic on Monday, July 28, 2025, following just over two years of construction. This $76.8 million project aims to significantly enhance safety and convenience for the thousands of drivers using the Patricia Bay Highway.

The opening marks a critical improvement for the area, allowing for a smoother exit off the highway while eliminating a dangerous left turn that has long posed risks to daily commuters. Mike Farnworth, Minister of Transportation and Transit, emphasized the importance of this development, stating, “People driving through this region need to be able to count on safe and smooth travel when they’re heading to their homes, work, the airport, or ferries.”

While the flyover will be open to vehicles, additional work will continue throughout the summer and fall, including paving of the southbound on-ramp, drainage improvements, and landscaping. Residents and commuters can expect some ongoing construction as these enhancements are finalized.

“This investment makes travel on this busy corridor safer and more reliable for families, commuters, and commercial drivers,” said Lana Popham, MLA for Saanich South. “It also strengthens ties to our local business community and supports the region’s growth well into the future.”

Funding for the project came from multiple sources, with the provincial government contributing $57.6 million, the federal government adding $16.7 million, and Central Saanich contributing $2.5 million. Will Greaves, Member of Parliament for Victoria, commented on the project’s significance, saying, “Our government is proud to invest in projects that support the expansion of local public transit and make life easier and safer for all Canadians.”

The B.C. government reports that over 52,000 vehicles travel this section of the Patricia Bay Highway daily. The new flyover is expected to not only expedite travel through the Saanich Peninsula but also enhance safety for neighborhoods along the route.

“This has been a long-standing priority for our community,” stated Ryan Windsor, Mayor of Central Saanich. “We’re grateful to the provincial and federal governments for recognizing its importance, and we’re thrilled to see the flyover opening.”

As the opening day approaches, it is clear that the Keating Flyover will bring substantial benefits to local residents, commuters, and businesses. Stay tuned for further updates as this critical infrastructure project comes to fruition.
