The James L McIntyre Centennial Library in Sault Ste. Marie is set to host an engaging event for children on August 12, 2023. The Great Egg Drop Challenge invites participants aged six to 13 to showcase their engineering skills in a hands-on STEM program. Scheduled for 14:00, the event will challenge young minds to design and construct a device capable of protecting a raw egg from a fall of 12 feet.

Participants will have access to a variety of materials to create their protective contraptions. The real test will be to see whether their designs can withstand the impact without cracking the egg. This event aims to combine learning with fun, inspiring creativity and problem-solving among attendees.

Kaylee Hunter, the Program Facilitator, expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming challenge. “We’re excited to provide a space where kids can explore STEM concepts in a fun and interactive way,” she said. “This event aims to inspire teamwork, problem-solving, and a whole lot of laughter. There is even a possibility that the library’s very own in-house Mad Scientist may make an appearance.”

To participate, families must register in advance, with registration opening on July 29, 2023, at 09:00. Given the limited number of spaces available, families are encouraged to sign up promptly through Eventbrite. For further information, interested parties can contact the Children’s Services department at 705-759-5241 or visit the Kid’s Programming page at www.ssmpl.ca.

This event represents an excellent opportunity for children to engage with science and technology in an enjoyable environment, promoting both education and creativity.
