Controversial U.S. Singer Sean Feucht Plans Concert in Ontario

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are monitoring a planned concert by U.S.-based Christian musician Sean Feucht today in eastern Ontario. The event is set to take place this afternoon in an open field located in the Township of Alfred and Plantagenet, just off Highway 17. Feucht announced the free concert via a post on X, also known as Twitter.

Feucht’s concert comes after his scheduled performance in Gatineau was canceled by the National Capital Commission (NCC) on March 15, 2024. The NCC cited “public safety and security” concerns as the reason for revoking his permit. In response to the current event, OPP Constable Brianna Babin confirmed to CTV News Ottawa that police are patrolling the area, and a stage has been erected for the concert.

Background on Feucht’s Controversial Activities

Feucht has become a polarizing figure due to his outspoken views on issues such as “gender ideology,” abortion, and the LGBTQ+ community. His beliefs have garnered attention, including from members of former U.S. President Donald Trump‘s administration. The Atlantic magazine characterized Feucht as a Christian nationalist and a “MAGA superstar.”

Just a day prior to the Ontario concert, Feucht held a performance at a church in downtown Montreal, despite facing permit issues with the city. Following that concert, the City of Montreal announced it would impose a fine on the church for hosting the event. Additionally, Feucht’s tour has seen multiple cancellations, affecting at least six other concert dates in cities including Quebec City, Charlottetown, Halifax, Moncton, and Vaughan.

As tensions surrounding the concert rise, local authorities are in communication with the owners of the Cedar Shade Campground, situated adjacent to the concert site. Constable Babin indicated that while the police are prepared for the event, the expected turnout remains uncertain. The township has also acknowledged awareness of Feucht’s concert, emphasizing the importance of ensuring public safety.

In a statement to CTV News Ottawa, Feucht expressed his dissent against policies implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic, which he claims were discriminatory towards Christians. He announced plans to perform in Toronto on Sunday, further extending his tour across Canada.
