Kelowna Kids Shine at Triathlon with 270 Participants

On July 27, 2023, approximately 270 young athletes participated in the Kids Triathlon held at H2O in Kelowna. The event, organized by the Kelowna Triathlon Club, welcomed children aged three to 15 and aimed to promote fitness and camaraderie among the youth.
Excitement Builds Before the Race
Before the race commenced, Cory Krist, the Race Director, energized the crowd and helped the participants warm up. Krist noted the significance of the event, stating, “There used to be a race that ran out of H2O called the Tri Kids. Unfortunately, since COVID, it never came back. The Kelowna Triathlon Club decided it would be a good initiative for our club.” His enthusiasm set a positive tone, encouraging the children as they prepared for their races.
Participants competed in varying distances tailored to their age groups. The thrill of competition was palpable, with friends and family cheering from the sidelines, creating a vibrant atmosphere that celebrated young athletes’ achievements.
First-Time Triathletes and Lasting Memories
A notable participant was Seena Sandhu, who completed her first triathlon at just ten years old. Seena shared her preparation routine, which included practicing with her father and sister at home. “My favorite parts of the day included the swim and the freezie at the end of the race,” she said, highlighting the joy that comes with participating in such events.
All participants received a finisher medal, ensuring that every child left with a sense of accomplishment. The event not only emphasized physical activity but also fostered community spirit, as families gathered to support the competitors.
The Kids Triathlon in Kelowna signifies a successful return to youth sporting events following the disruptions caused by the pandemic, illustrating the importance of encouraging physical fitness from an early age.
