Vernon’s Big Sun Beachwear Celebrates 30 Years with Sale
UPDATE: Big Sun Beachwear in Vernon, British Columbia, is celebrating a remarkable 30 years in business with a special anniversary sale on August 1 and 2, 2023. The boutique, known for its personalized fittings and inclusive selection, has transformed from a tanning business into a beloved beachwear destination.
When owners Lisa and Glenn Gallie first opened their doors, they quickly realized they needed more than just tanning services to thrive in the region’s scorching summers. “We rebranded as Big Sun Beachwear in 2010, adding swimwear and expanding our offerings,” Lisa shared. This pivot not only saved their business but also fostered a loyal customer base that now extends across the Okanagan, Alberta, and the Lower Mainland.
The Gallies have built their reputation on kindness and quality, nurturing relationships with customers who feel like family. Lisa recounted, “Our clients have shared their journeys with us, and now their kids shop with us too.” This close-knit community has been vital to their success, especially during challenging times, including floods, fires, and even a car crashing through their front lobby.
During the pandemic, Big Sun faced a critical challenge when forced to close for three months. In response, they launched a comprehensive online store, entering over 6,000 SKUs with photos and descriptions. “This change allowed us to serve even more people, wherever they are,” Lisa explained. Today, the store operates both a bustling storefront and a thriving online platform, shipping across North America.
“Every challenge has made us stronger,” Glenn noted. The couple credits their loyal staff, including Glenn’s sister Corrine, who has been a vital part of the business since its inception. “Her loyalty and love helped carry Big Sun through the toughest and most beautiful moments,” Glenn added.
As Big Sun Beachwear celebrates this significant milestone, they invite the community to join in the festivities. Customers can expect great deals during the anniversary sale on August 1 and 2. “We take pride in fitting nearly anyone who walks through the door. It’s definitely worth the drive,” Lisa said.
