Fake Nurse Hailey Roberts Jailed After Bail Revoked, Fraud Charges
UPDATE: Hailey Roberts, a 33-year-old woman from Tiny Township, Ontario, has been taken into custody following the revocation of her bail. This urgent development comes just days after she appeared in Barrie bail court on Monday afternoon, seeking release after pleading guilty to serious fraud and assault charges.
Roberts, who impersonated a licensed nurse for over four years, deceived numerous long-term care homes in Elmvale, Midland, and Stayner, raking in over $118,000 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her fraudulent activities were exposed late last year, leading to criminal charges that include nine counts such as fraud under false pretenses and assaulting seniors by illegally administering medications to 58 residents.
During her plea in June 2023, Roberts admitted to forging documents and lying about her qualifications to secure these positions. She had falsely claimed to have upgraded her certification from a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) to Registered Nurse (RN). This shocking case has raised significant concerns about the safety of vulnerable populations in care settings.
Witnesses say that Roberts has a history of deceit, including a previous incident where she faked having brain cancer. In a separate scheme, she allegedly pretended to be pregnant and forged signatures to steal thousands from unsuspecting individuals.
Roberts was released on bail after her initial arrest but was taken back into custody last week. She is now awaiting a sentencing hearing, with her next court appearance scheduled for tomorrow as she seeks a placement with the Salvation Army bail program.
Officials have put a publication ban on evidence presented in court on Monday, preventing further details from being released. This ongoing case continues to develop, and its implications for the healthcare system and the protection of seniors are profound.
As the situation unfolds, the community is left grappling with the consequences of Roberts’ actions and the breach of trust within the healthcare sector. Stay tuned for more updates on this urgent story.
