Rogers Expands Xfinity Platform with Four New Streaming Apps
Rogers has expanded its Xfinity TV platform by integrating four new streaming applications: CBC Gem, ICI.TOU.TV, Paramount+, and DAZN. This addition allows subscribers to access a broader range of content, including sports, children’s programming, and popular television series, all from a single interface.
The inclusion of DAZN brings a comprehensive sports streaming service to Xfinity users, offering coverage of various sports events. CBC Gem and ICI.TOU.TV cater to audiences looking for Canadian content, featuring programming in both English and French. Meanwhile, Paramount+ provides a diverse library that includes family-friendly shows like SpongeBob SquarePants and blockbuster films such as Top Gun: Maverick.
For Rogers customers utilizing traditional television services, the integration allows seamless access to these streaming platforms directly from their Xfinity box. Users can now log in to their respective accounts without the hassle of switching inputs or navigating to their smart TV’s home screen. This enhancement aligns Rogers with industry trends, as competitors have already embraced similar integrations.
One notable aspect of the announcement is Rogers’ reference to its remote control as “award-winning.” This description, while intriguing, stems from the recognition received by its parent company, Comcast, which won a Technology and Engineering Emmy in 2018 for the remote’s innovative voice control features. Despite this accolade, the overall user experience with remotes across different telecom providers remains a topic of debate, suggesting that consumers may need to choose based on personal preference rather than technology superiority.
As the competition in the streaming industry continues to evolve, the addition of these apps to the Xfinity platform represents a significant step for Rogers in enhancing customer experience and catering to diverse viewing preferences. With more viewers seeking integrated solutions for their entertainment needs, this move is expected to strengthen Rogers’ position in the market.
