Atlas Rentals Launches Premium Living Spaces in Carrington

A new rental housing project, known as Atlas, has officially launched in the northwest community of Carrington, Calgary. Developed by Genstar Development Co., designed by NORR Architecture, and constructed by Truman, Atlas aims to provide premium living spaces that foster community and connection. This initiative, which began in late spring of 2023, is designed to address the increasing demand for quality rental accommodations amid a housing affordability crisis.
Marcello Chiacchia, Vice-President of Genstar, emphasizes the project’s commitment to creating a place residents can proudly call home. “Our goal was to build something that residents would be proud to call home,” he stated. The development features 432 units spread across four six-storey buildings, framing an inviting landscaped courtyard that serves as a communal space for relaxation and socializing.
Community-Centric Design and Amenities
The design of Atlas prioritizes community engagement, with a variety of on-site amenities aimed at enhancing residents’ lifestyles. A residents-only amenity centre opened in July 2023, offering a range of facilities. The 5,400-sq.-ft. space includes a fully equipped gym, a media room, a kitchen and lounge area, an outdoor patio, and a pet recreation zone. Additional amenities within the residential buildings consist of a co-working space, a children’s playroom, and a games room, all intended to cultivate a sense of belonging among residents.
Moreover, tenants at Atlas enjoy access to the broader amenities of the Carrington community, which includes scenic walking paths, mountain views, and re-naturalized wetlands. The community also features a commercial centre and plans for a future light rail transit (LRT) station, ensuring convenient access to public transportation and major roadways.
Architectural Appeal and Rental Options
The architectural design of Atlas combines classical elements with modern aesthetics. The buildings feature inviting exteriors made of Hardie siding, brick, and faux-wood metal cladding to create a visually engaging environment. Inside, the homes are designed to maximize natural light with large windows and balconies, some offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
Residents can choose from various floor plans, including one-, two-, and three-bedroom units, with sizes ranging from 569 sq. ft. to 940 sq. ft. All homes are pet-friendly and include luxury finishes such as quartz countertops, nine-foot ceilings, and energy-efficient stainless steel appliances. Rental prices for one-bedroom suites start at $1,400 per month.
As Calgary navigates a housing and affordability crisis, Chiacchia highlights the significance of projects like Atlas. “Rising home prices are making it more difficult for first-time buyers to enter the market, so many people, including young professionals, students, newcomers, and even downsizers, are turning to renting as a longer-term solution,” he noted.
In response to the growing demand for rental housing, Genstar has announced plans for further developments in both Lewisburg and Savanna, with construction expected to begin in early 2026. Atlas is located at 14440 1st St. N.W. and currently has a leasing office and furnished show suite open for viewing. The office is available Tuesday and Thursday from 11:00 to 19:00 and Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 10:00 to 18:00, remaining closed on Sundays and Mondays. With three of its four buildings already complete, leasing activities are well underway, positioning Atlas as a prominent option for those seeking quality rental accommodations in Calgary.
