UPDATE: August 4, 2025, marks Natal Day in Prince Edward Island, a civic holiday that brings significant changes to store and service operations across the region. Residents and visitors need to be aware of what is open and what is closed as they plan their day.

Federal government employees will not be working today, but it’s important to note that not all provincial employees will enjoy the day off. Provincial government offices in areas like Summerside, Kensington, and Borden are closed, while Access P.E.I. locations in Prince County will also be shut down. However, Charlottetown locations remain operational, with the Three Rivers Town Hall open for business.

Canada Post offices will not be open, meaning there will be no mail pickup or delivery, which could affect many residents. Public libraries in Prince County are also closed today, limiting access to reading and community resources.

Residents relying on public transport can breathe a sigh of relief: T3 Transit city and rural routes are running on their regular schedules, ensuring mobility for those in need. Meanwhile, the Island Waste Management Corporation is operating normally, so waste collection will proceed without disruption.

In retail news, several shopping destinations are open for business. The Confederation Court Mall in Charlottetown, Royalty Crossing mall, and the County Fair Mall in Summerside are all operating during their usual hours. Additionally, all P.E.I. Liquor Control Commission and Cannabis P.E.I. stores will be available for regular shopping.

Groceries remain accessible as well. Walmart stores in both Summerside and Charlottetown are open, along with Atlantic Superstore locations across the Island. Other grocery outlets including Foodland, Co-Op, Sobeys, and Brighton Clover Farm in Charlottetown will also maintain their regular hours.

Pharmacy services are crucial to many residents, and all Shoppers Drug Mart locations will be open today. Key Lawtons Drugs locations on Water Street and Sherwood in Charlottetown, as well as the County Fair Mall in Summerside, will also operate at regular hours.

As you head out today, it’s advisable to call ahead to confirm the status of specific businesses, as not all services are guaranteed to be available. This Natal Day, be sure to check out local shopping options and enjoy the holiday, while remaining mindful of the closures that may affect your plans.

Stay tuned for further updates as the day progresses.
