North Vancouver’s Pink Pied Piper Launches Fundraising Tour Now
UPDATE: North Vancouver’s beloved Pink Pied Piper, Frank Wimberley, is set to embark on an urgent fundraising cycling tour from Winnipeg to Toronto this August 2023. This initiative aims to support youth bagpiping and literary arts, making it a vital cause for the community.
Every Friday at 5 p.m., Wimberley transforms the Lonsdale corridor into a vibrant celebration, heralding the weekend with his colorful bagpipes. “It’s become quite the hit,” Wimberley shared, as locals flock to hear his tunes, marking the end of the workweek. The Pink Pied Piper has become a symbol of joy, especially during challenging times, like the pandemic when he played outside Lions Gate Hospital to uplift spirits.
This August’s cycling tour will raise funds for two key organizations: the Robert Malcolm Memorial Youth Pipe Band, which feeds into the prestigious SFU Pipe Band, and Word Vancouver, where Wimberley showcases his poetry. “We need to get younger folk excited about bagpipes,” he emphasized, addressing the declining number of young bagpipers.
To support his cause, Wimberley has partnered with North Vancouver’s Black Kettle Brewing, which has launched a special edition beer named Perambulating Pink Piper Pale Ale. This initiative not only raises funds but celebrates Wimberley’s unique journey and passion for the arts.
Wimberley, who began his bagpiping journey after serving in the military, explained, “I started wearing something – anything – other than brown.” His vibrant persona has attracted not just applause but also tears of joy from children who hear his music.
As Wimberley prepares for his cross-country adventure, he encourages everyone to contribute to his GoFundMe campaign at www.gofundme.com/f/pink-perambulating-piper-cycle-across-canada. This is not just a fundraising effort; it’s a movement to preserve the cultural heritage of bagpiping and promote the literary arts among the youth.
With his infectious spirit and commitment to community, Frank Wimberley is not just playing music—he’s inspiring a generation. Don’t miss your chance to support this unique cause and enjoy a taste of the Perambulating Pink Piper Pale Ale. Share this story and help spread the word!
