Firefighters Execute Rope Rescue of Injured Motorcyclist

A motorcyclist was injured in a single-vehicle incident on **August 4, 2023**, on **Wardner Fort Steele Road**. Emergency responders from the **Jaffray** and **Elko Fire Departments** quickly arrived at the scene to assist the injured rider. The motorcyclist lost control after hitting gravel, veering off the roadway and down a steep embankment.

The emergency response involved eleven firefighters and five pieces of apparatus. Upon arrival, firefighters undertook a rope rescue operation to safely retrieve the injured individual. The patient was subsequently transported by **BC Ambulance** to **East Kootenay Regional Hospital** for assessment and treatment.

In addition to the firefighting teams, members of the **Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP)** were present at the scene. To ensure the safety of both the emergency crews and the public, the roadway was temporarily closed while responders worked.

The effective collaboration between the fire departments and other emergency services highlights the preparedness for such incidents in the region. Authorities continue to remind motorcyclists to exercise caution, particularly on gravel roads, which can pose significant hazards.
