UPDATE: Two past champions of the Rogers Charity Classic, Ken Tanigawa and Ken Duke, just held an inspiring golf clinic for nearly 70 kids at the Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club in Calgary. This exciting event, aimed at igniting passion for golf among youth, comes just days before the tournament kicks off on Friday, July 14, 2023.

Tanigawa, who won the tournament last year, expressed his enthusiasm for returning to Calgary, stating, “It feels great; I always loved coming here.” The 57-year-old golfer emphasized the importance of nurturing the next generation of players: “If you can give back a little bit… that’s one more kid that plays, so it’s a win for everybody.”

Duke, the 2023 champion, also underscored the significance of making golf enjoyable for newcomers. “Just let them have fun,” the 56-year-old advised, highlighting the need to focus on simple victories, like making short putts. His words resonated with the kids, including Cshallaya Whitney, 10, who learned the critical lesson of keeping her eyes on the ball during swings.

The clinic not only provided essential tips but also allowed the children to engage directly with two of the sport’s prominent figures. “To keep the game going is really important,” Tanigawa remarked, reinforcing the value of such initiatives in increasing youth participation.

As anticipation builds for the three-day event starting Friday, the Pro-Ams will take place on Wednesday and Thursday, setting the stage for another exciting chapter in Calgary’s golfing history.

With the tournament fast approaching, both champions are keen to make a mark again. Duke noted his recent seventh-place finish in Seattle as a positive sign for his performance at Canyon Meadows. Fans and aspiring young golfers alike are eager to see how these champions will fare in this year’s competition.

Stay tuned for more updates as the Rogers Charity Classic unfolds, and let’s hope the joy of golf continues to inspire the next generation!
