The Los Angeles Angels executed a remarkable triple play during their game against the Los Angeles Dodgers on March 12, 2024. This impressive defensive feat marked the eighth triple play in the franchise’s history, showcasing the skills of shortstop Zach Neto, who completed two putouts and an assist on the play.

In the sixth inning, the Dodgers had Miguel Rojas on second base and Dalton Rushing on first when Shohei Ohtani lined a fastball directly up the middle, past reliever Brock Burke. Neto reacted quickly, catching the line drive on the fly. He then stepped on second base to tag out Rojas, who was attempting to advance. Without missing a beat, Neto threw to first base, where Nolan Schanuel tagged out Rushing as he tried to retreat to the bag. Rushing stumbled awkwardly and fell to the ground after the tag, remaining down for a brief period before getting back on his feet.

This triple play was the Angels’ first since August 18, 2023, and it came at a critical moment, preserving a 5-5 tie in the latest chapter of the Freeway Series. The Angels have had a strong start to the season, winning the first four matchups against their city rivals, the Dodgers.

The play highlighted the Angels’ defensive prowess and added an exciting element to a competitive game. As the season progresses, the team will look to maintain its momentum and continue to build on their early success against the Dodgers.
