BREAKING: The Regina Red Sox have advanced to the Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) Championship after a decisive 6-2 victory over the Saskatoon Berries in Game 3 of the East Division Final on July 25, 2023. This victory not only ends the Berries’ historic season but also propels the Red Sox into their first championship appearance since 2019.

The game kicked off with Regina taking an early lead, scoring 1 run in the top of the first inning. Saskatoon quickly responded, tying the game in the bottom of the inning. However, the Red Sox surged ahead, thanks to back-to-back RBI doubles from all-stars Matthew Fox and Brady Bye in the seventh inning, establishing a commanding 4-run lead.

In a stellar performance, reliever Ayden Page dominated on the mound, pitching 3.2 scoreless innings with just two hits allowed, striking out two batters. This clinching victory marks a bittersweet end to the Berries’ season, who set a league record with 46 wins during the regular season but fell short in the playoffs.

The Red Sox now prepare to face the undefeated Sylvan Lake Gulls in the championship series. The Gulls have swept their way through the postseason, defeating the Lethbridge Bulls and Okotoks without a loss. Game 1 is set for Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. at Currie Field, with Games 2 and 3 scheduled at Gulls Stadium due to their superior regular season record.

This championship appearance marks the Red Sox’s seventh in the last 13 years, the most of any team in the WCBL. However, Regina has not claimed a league title since winning back-to-back championships in 2011 and 2012.

Fans are eagerly anticipating the upcoming matchups, with the stakes higher than ever as the Red Sox aim to reclaim their championship glory. The excitement is palpable as this historic franchise takes aim at their long-awaited title. Stay tuned for more updates as the series unfolds!
