Air Canada Expands U.S. Flight Services from Toronto Airport
Air Canada has announced a significant expansion of its flight services from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport to four major U.S. cities. Starting in 2026, the airline will enhance connectivity between the Greater Toronto area and destinations including New York, Boston, Washington, and Chicago.
The new service will feature non-stop return flights to New York’s LaGuardia Airport, operating four times daily, and three daily flights to Boston Logan International Airport. Additionally, Air Canada will introduce twice-daily flights to Chicago O’Hare International Airport and daily service to Washington Dulles International Airport. These routes are expected to commence in the spring, following the establishment of a U.S. Customs and Border Protection pre-clearance facility at the island airport, which allows travelers to complete U.S. customs procedures before departure.
Beginning in January 2026, Air Canada will also increase its return flights to Montreal and Ottawa. According to Mark Galardo, Air Canada’s executive vice president and chief commercial officer, “The new transborder routes will especially benefit our loyal customers and business travellers by creating frequent and easy connections between the heart of Canada’s financial capital and the major markets of New York, Boston, Washington and Chicago.” He emphasized that the increase in domestic flights will cater to “Canada’s most heavily travelled corridors for business traffic.”
The expanded services from Billy Bishop Airport are designed to complement Air Canada’s extensive offerings from Toronto Pearson Airport, which is projected to operate over 600 return flights daily to 124 destinations during the summer of 2026.
New Flight Schedule and Aircraft Details
The new routes will roll out as follows:
– New York LaGuardia (LGA) begins on March 29, 2026
– Boston Logan (BOS) starts on July 1, 2026
– Chicago O’Hare (ORD) launches on June 1, 2026
– Washington Dulles (IAD) also begins on June 1, 2026
All flights will be operated by Air Canada’s regional partner, Jazz Aviation, using a 78-seat De Havilland Dash 8-400 aircraft. The airline plans a complete cabin redesign for 25 of these aircraft, introducing new next-generation seating and updated cabin interiors to enhance passenger comfort.
This strategic expansion reflects Air Canada’s commitment to improving travel options for customers and supporting increased business activity between Canada and the United States.
