Air Canada announced that it expects the majority of its domestic and U.S. flights to resume operations today. This follows the conclusion of a strike by flight attendants that disrupted services for several days. As of last night, an online dashboard tracking Air Canada’s service resumption indicated that 97 percent of domestic flights and 99 percent of U.S. flights are anticipated to operate within the next 24 hours.

Gradual Return to International Services

While the airline is swiftly ramping up its North American routes, the recovery of international flights is progressing at a slower pace. Air Canada forecasts that only 76 percent of planned international flights will operate today. According to Mark Nasr, the airline’s chief operations officer, this delay is attributed to the need for crews to return home before the strike commenced. As a result, many staff were not in position overseas when operations resumed.

Air Canada expects it will take up to 10 days for services to return to normal levels across both Air Canada and its regional subsidiary, Air Canada Rouge. The airline has also implemented a new policy to reimburse customers who booked alternative transportation due to flight cancellations between August 15 and August 23.

Customer Support Amid Disruptions

In light of the recent disruptions, Air Canada is focusing on customer support and ensuring those affected receive appropriate assistance. The reimbursement policy aims to alleviate some of the challenges faced by passengers during the strike period. The airline is working diligently to restore full service and provide a seamless travel experience for its customers.

This report was first published by The Canadian Press on August 21, 2025. As Air Canada navigates the aftermath of the strike, the emphasis remains on getting flights back to normal and supporting travelers impacted by the cancellations.
