Air Canada to Restart Flights After Labour Board Decision
Air Canada announced it will resume flights on Sunday following a ruling from the Canada Industrial Relations Board. The board mandated that both the airline and its striking flight attendants return to their jobs, ordering them into binding arbitration to resolve the ongoing labour dispute.
The decision came after a lengthy hearing that extended into the night on Saturday. The board specified that airline operations for all Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge flights must restart by 14:00 ET on Sunday. This ruling aims to restore normal service for passengers affected by the strike, which had disrupted numerous flights.
In a statement, Air Canada expressed relief over the board’s intervention, highlighting its commitment to customer service and operational stability. The airline has faced significant challenges in recent weeks due to the strike, which began over disputes related to working conditions and pay for flight attendants.
Passengers who had their travel plans impacted by the strike can expect the resumption of scheduled services starting on Sunday afternoon. The airline encouraged customers to check flight statuses online for updates on their travel arrangements.
The decision by the Canada Industrial Relations Board underscores the importance of maintaining essential services in the aviation sector, especially during peak travel periods. The resolution of this dispute is expected to alleviate concerns for travelers and restore confidence in Air Canada’s operations.
As the situation develops, both Air Canada and its flight attendants will engage in the arbitration process, which aims to address the underlying issues that led to the strike. The outcome of these negotiations will determine the future working conditions for flight attendants and the airline’s operational policies moving forward.
With flights now set to resume, Air Canada is focused on ensuring a smooth transition back to normal operations while prioritizing the needs of its passengers.
