Brewery Hosts Weekly Runs to Foster Community Spirit
Every Thursday evening, the Second Wedge Brewing Co. transforms from a cozy brewery into a vibrant community hub as local residents gather for a unique event—an organized running session. This initiative, launched by Joanne Richter and Meahgan O’Hara approximately 18 months ago, invites participants to run distances ranging from five to seven kilometres while fostering social connections.
Richter, who began her recreational running journey around 15 years ago, shared that nearly 100 people have signed up for this drop-in event. While attendance may vary, the initiative is designed to be inclusive, welcoming individuals of all ages. Families often join in, making it a community affair that encourages physical activity and camaraderie.
Run Details and Seasonal Adjustments
During the summer months, participants set out from the brewery at 19:00 (7 p.m.), heading north towards the scenic Fields of Uxbridge. The route offers a pleasant running experience, allowing participants to enjoy the natural surroundings. In contrast, the winter runs adapt to ensure safety and visibility, with groups sticking to well-lit streets around the downtown area. This commitment to year-round running means that enthusiasts can stay active regardless of the season.
After completing the run, participants return to the Second Wedge Brewing Co. to enjoy refreshments and socialize, reinforcing the event’s dual purpose of fitness and community engagement.
For those interested in joining this weekly gathering or seeking further information, Joanne Richter can be contacted directly at the brewery, reachable at 905-852-3232. This initiative not only promotes health but also cultivates a sense of belonging among community members, demonstrating the power of local businesses to enhance social connections.
