Caseware Overhauls Leadership Team to Embrace AI Revolution

Toronto-based analytics and accounting software provider Caseware has significantly reshaped its executive leadership in 2025, replacing most of its C-suite as it adapts to the evolving landscape influenced by artificial intelligence (AI). This comprehensive restructuring includes the appointments of new executives, such as chief technology officer Sam High, chief product officer Andrew Smith, chief marketing officer Ericka Podesta McCoy, chief customer success officer Mike Jahoda, and chief revenue officer Jason Rushforth. Additionally, Chris Nagy has taken on a dual role as chief financial officer and chief operating officer.
In an interview with BetaKit, Caseware CEO David Marquis confirmed that no further changes to the executive team are planned, though he noted, “anything can change as you look forward.” Marquis stated that most of the new appointments replaced outgoing executives, with the exception of the newly created roles of chief customer success officer and chief revenue officer, which replaced a previous chief commercial officer position. Notably, Kate Muller, the chief people officer, remains the only member of the C-suite who was with the company prior to 2024.
Marquis emphasized that these extensive changes reflect the company’s ambition to set “ambitious” and “meaningful” long-term goals. While he did not provide specific details on these objectives, he articulated a vision “to power trust in the global economy.” He remarked, “You have to ask yourself: who are the leaders that can help achieve this vision?”
The transformation comes as Caseware seeks to modernize its accounting technology in response to the rapid adoption of cloud computing and AI. Marquis explained that these advancements necessitate a shift in leadership to align with the company’s growth trajectory. He stated, “To take advantage of that, especially as an incumbent company that has a lot of assets but may need to move quickly, we need the right vision, goals, strategy, and people on our leadership team.”
Founded in 1988, Caseware is known for its software tools that assist auditors, accountants, and analysts in working more efficiently. Its flagship platform, Caseware Cloud, centralizes accounting documents and facilitates collaboration, including generating draft timesheets and integrating third-party applications.
As part of its growth strategy, Caseware has also been active in acquisitions. Earlier this year, the company acquired LeaseJava, which simplifies lease modifications without the need for new contracts. It also purchased Extractly.ai, a company specializing in automating financial statement reviews and extracting data from documents. This acquisition represents the ninth since Hg Capital, a British private equity firm, became the majority owner of Caseware in 2020.
The executive restructuring began in January when Marquis joined Caseware after a five-year tenure with American tax-preparation software provider Intuit. He succeeded David Osborne, who had led Caseware since 2021. Osborne, who received accolades such as Accounting Today’s Top 100 People recognition and was named one of the executives of the year at the BIG Awards for Business, stepped down shortly after overseeing the LeaseJava acquisition. At the time of his departure, Mike Sabbatis, chair of the Caseware board, acknowledged Osborne’s pivotal contributions but expressed enthusiasm about the new direction under Marquis.
“I took this job because there aren’t many Canadian-based tech companies with a global presence that have a true line of sight to being a global champion,” Marquis stated. He expressed confidence that the new leadership team is well-equipped to drive the company toward its next phase of growth and innovation.
Through these strategic changes, Caseware aims to solidify its position in an increasingly competitive market, reflecting its commitment to leveraging technology and enhancing its service offerings.
