Major Recalls Issued for Dodge Hornet, Alfa Romeo Tonale, Volkswagen Tiguan
Transport Canada has announced significant recalls affecting certain models of the 2024 Dodge Hornet and 2024 Alfa Romeo Tonale, as well as the 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan. The recalls are due to safety concerns regarding brake and airbag systems that could pose risks to drivers and passengers.
The first recall pertains to models from Stellantis, specifically concerning the brake pedals of the Dodge Hornet and Alfa Romeo Tonale. This recall is an expansion of a previous one issued in 2024, which involved 2,280 vehicles. Now, an additional 1,068 vehicles are being recalled, as the brake pedal may fail, potentially preventing the driver from stopping the vehicle safely. The relevant Transport Canada recall number is 2025-674.
In the United States, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) indicated that this issue affected 20,755 vehicles produced between July 2023 and July 2024. The remedy for this problem involves reinforcing the brake pedal with a bolt and nut, which will be performed at no cost to the vehicle owners when they bring their cars to a dealership for repair.
Volkswagen Tiguan Recall Details
The second recall affects 946 units of the 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan, categorized under Transport Canada recall 2025-679. In these vehicles, a flaw in the wiring for the passenger-side occupant detection system may prevent the airbag from deploying in the event of a collision, even if a passenger is seated. Drivers may notice an error message in the instrument cluster, accompanied by a warning chime and an airbag indicator light displaying “passenger airbag off.”
Volkswagen has advised that until the repairs are completed, it is crucial that no passengers occupy the seat in question if warning messages are displayed. In the U.S., NHTSA reported that 3,138 vehicles are affected by this wiring issue, which stems from improper crimping of a connection.
For both recalls, automobile dealers will provide necessary repairs at no charge. Vehicle owners in Canada can confirm whether their cars are affected by visiting the recall pages for Dodge, Alfa Romeo, or Volkswagen, where they will need to input their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to check their status.
As a reminder, automakers are legally required to send recall notices to the owners of affected vehicles. Therefore, it is essential for owners to keep their contact information updated with the manufacturer, especially if they have recently moved or purchased a used vehicle.
