Metalsource Mining Launches Geophysical Survey in North Carolina
Metalsource Mining, Inc. has initiated a comprehensive geophysical survey program at its Silver Hill Mine and Byrd-Pilot project areas located in Davidson and Randolph Counties, North Carolina. This announcement, made on November 20, 2025, outlines a collaborative effort with Durango Geophysical Operations, LLC (DGO), a specialist in electrical geophysics, to enhance the understanding of subsurface geology within these historic mining regions.
The survey will include approximately 40 Magnetotelluric (MT) stations across both project sites. This reconnaissance phase aims to identify geological structures and potential mineralization zones that could be crucial for future exploration. The fieldwork is expected to last around 20 days, concluding in early December 2025.
State-of-the-art technology will be employed during the survey, utilizing Phoenix Geophysics MT receivers and transmitters that incorporate Remote Reference noise reduction techniques. This advanced technology ensures high-quality data collection, which is essential for accurate geological interpretation. The results will be processed using a 2-D Zonge Smooth Model Inversion and integrated into the existing Leapfrog geological models of the company.
Oversight of the field operations is managed by John Reynolds, President of DGO, while data interpretation will be carried out by Karen R. Christopherson of Chinook Geoconsulting, Inc. Following the initial MT survey, Metalsource Mining plans to conduct a detailed Induced Polarization (IP) survey based on the results, aimed at refining potential drill targets.
Joe Cullen, Chief Executive Officer of Metalsource Mining, expressed optimism about the program, stating, “This geophysical program represents the next step in our systematic exploration approach in this historic mining district. The MT survey data will help us better understand the subsurface geology and alteration to identify priority targets.”
Project Insights and Historical Significance
The Silver Hill project, located within the Carolina Terrane, enjoys a rich geological history. The property spans 1,128 acres and is underlain by volcaniclastic and volcano-sedimentary rocks from the Neoproterozoic and Cambrian eras. This region is recognized as the site of the first significant silver discovery and production in America.
The existing dataset for Silver Hill includes an extensive drillhole database, underground mapping, historic dumps, and underground chip samples. Current mineralization extends to depths of 550 meters, characterized by a steeply trending series of lenses that remain open in multiple directions. Recent surface sampling has yielded promising results, such as 444 g/t Ag, 17.7 g/t Au, 8.61% Pb, and 0.507% Zn from the SH25-003 sample.
The Byrd-Pilot Mountain project, also situated in central North Carolina, has garnered attention for its potential gold-copper system. Historical investigations by the U.S. Geological Survey in the 1980s identified broad gold mineralization across soils and trenches, coinciding with strong self-potential anomalies. The geology in this area exhibits intense quartz-sericite-pyrite alteration, suggesting the potential for a large epithermal or porphyry-related gold system.
Geological modeling indicates an east-west trend of mineralization, which remains open in multiple directions. Notably, the Meridian discovery zone has seen no drilling since the 1980s, indicating opportunities for substantial resource expansion.
