Protein Industries Canada Begins Search for New CEO Following Leadership Change

The Board of Directors of Protein Industries Canada has announced the departure of Robert Hunter from his role as Chief Executive Officer. Hunter had been at the helm since January 2025. In light of this transition, the Board is launching an expedited search for a new CEO to ensure continuity and further the organization’s mission.
Tyler Groeneveld, Chair of the Board of Directors, emphasized the importance of this leadership change, stating, “The Board of Directors’ priority is the long-term sustainability and operational success of the organization.” He highlighted that Protein Industries Canada is committed to advancing its strategic plan, known as The Road to $25 Billion, which aims to enhance the plant-based ingredient and food processing sector in Canada.
As one of Canada’s five Global Innovation Clusters, Protein Industries Canada focuses on boosting the country’s plant-based food, feed, and ingredient sector. The organization has established numerous projects and partnerships, all aimed at strengthening the agri-food sector in Canada. These initiatives are designed to support a sustainable agricultural ecosystem, which remains a core aspect of Protein Industries Canada’s operational strategy.
The organization’s ongoing projects and partnerships will continue unabated during this leadership transition. The Board’s decision to search for a new CEO reflects a commitment to maintaining stability and advancing the critical goals outlined in its strategic plan.
In recent years, the demand for plant-based products has surged, reflecting a broader global trend towards sustainability and healthier eating habits. Protein Industries Canada plays a pivotal role in positioning Canada as a leader in this growing market, fostering innovation and collaboration among industry stakeholders.
As the search for a new leader begins, the organization aims to ensure that its momentum is not only preserved but strengthened. This transition period presents both challenges and opportunities for Protein Industries Canada as it seeks to navigate the complexities of a rapidly evolving industry landscape.
The Board of Directors will keep stakeholders informed throughout the search process, underscoring its commitment to transparency and strategic growth. With a focus on building a stronger, sustainable agri-food sector, Protein Industries Canada is poised to continue its vital mission in the coming months.
