Rescue Teams Mobilize as Three Workers Trapped in B.C. Mine
Rescue operations are actively underway at the Red Chris Mine near Dease Lake, British Columbia, where three workers have been trapped underground since July 24, 2025. The incident occurred following two separate “fall of ground” events, which blocked access to the underground work area.
The trapped workers include two contractors from British Columbia and one from Ontario. They were more than 500 meters beyond the initial collapse when the second incident occurred, preventing their exit. Prior to losing communication with the surface, the workers confirmed they had relocated to a designated refuge station equipped with sufficient food, water, and ventilation for an extended stay.
Efforts to Restore Communication and Safety
Newmont Corp., the mine’s operator, is coordinating the response by assembling specialist teams from nearby mining sites. The company is currently assessing technologies that could restore communication with the trapped workers and facilitate their safe extraction.
Premier David Eby announced the incident and confirmed that a senior geotechnical inspector has been dispatched to support the ongoing rescue efforts. Eby emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of the workers and the effectiveness of the emergency response.
Imperial Metals Corp., which holds a minority stake in the Red Chris Mine, has reiterated that the priority remains the safety of the workers and the rescue teams. As rescue operations progress, authorities are focused on ensuring all necessary resources are available to secure a successful outcome.
Community Response and Next Steps
The local community is closely following the developments, with many residents expressing concern for the trapped workers and their families. As rescue teams continue their efforts, updates will be provided to keep the public informed about the situation.
This report highlights the urgent nature of the rescue operation and the commitment of both Newmont Corp. and Imperial Metals Corp. to rectify the situation and ensure the safety of those involved. Further updates are expected as the operation unfolds.
