Smash’D Burgers Advances to Semifinals in Chicago Burger Contest

Voting is currently underway for the first-ever “Chicago’s Very Own Eats: Best Burgers Tournament,” organized by WGN Radio, in which **Smash’D Burgers and Fries** has advanced to the semifinals. Owned by **Kevin Byrnes**, a Marine Corps veteran, this food truck has captured the attention of burger enthusiasts since its inception three years ago in **Crystal Lake**.
Smash’D Burgers began as a humble operation under a tent before transitioning to a food truck two years ago. The business has made a name for itself by serving up fresh, griddle-smashed **Angus beef burgers**, known for their crispy edges and house-made sauces. Among their popular offerings is the **Bacon Jam Burger**, which showcases the bold flavors that Byrnes prides himself on.
“We’re honored by the support and excited to compete in the semifinals,” Byrnes stated. “Our burgers are all about fresh ingredients and bold flavors.” The tournament, which started with **64 restaurants**, aims to promote small, family-owned businesses in the Chicago area.
Voting for the semifinals will close at **6 a.m.** on **Monday, September 11, 2023**. Fans of the food truck can cast their votes at the WGN Radio website. The tournament is sponsored by **Turano Baking Company** and **Puckered Pickle Company**, both of which support local culinary enterprises.
As Smash’D Burgers continues to gain traction in this competition, the response from the local community has been overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the impact of small businesses on the vibrant food scene in Chicago. The tournament not only celebrates culinary excellence but also fosters community spirit by encouraging patrons to support their favorite establishments.
With the competition heating up, the final results will showcase not just the winning burger, but also the dedication of local entrepreneurs like **Kevin Byrnes** who bring their unique flavors to the forefront of the culinary landscape.
