TransLink Celebrates 50+ Employers Offering Employee Discounts
TransLink has achieved a significant milestone with its Transit-Friendly Employer program, which now includes over 50 businesses throughout Metro Vancouver. These employers provide their employees with discounts on transit, benefiting more than 15,000 workers who receive subsidized Compass passes.
Through this initiative, employers have the opportunity to cover half the cost of either a monthly or Stored Value Compass Pass. This arrangement not only offers employees a smarter and more affordable way to commute but also promotes environmentally friendly transportation options. TransLink highlighted that certified employers can showcase the exclusive Transit-Friendly Employer stamp on their websites and job postings, thereby demonstrating their commitment to sustainability and attracting talent.
Groundbreaking Program Launch
Launched in 2022, the Transit-Friendly Employer program is the first of its kind in Canada. Notable participants include the YVR Vancouver Airport Authority, Lush Handmade Cosmetics, Vancouver Coastal Health, Fairmont Vancouver Airport, and Rivian Automotive, among others. Additional participating organizations encompass BC Housing, the Fraser Health Authority, and Legal Aid BC, reflecting a diverse range of industries committed to supporting their employees.
TransLink emphasizes that employers involved in this scheme play a critical role in fostering a more sustainable Metro Vancouver. Transportation remains the largest contributor to carbon emissions in the region. According to TransLink, riding a conventional bus can reduce emissions by 60 percent compared to driving a gas-powered vehicle, while trips on SkyTrain or electric trolley buses cut emissions by more than 99 percent.
Enhancing Public Transit Access
Employees utilizing this program are set to gain even more benefits. TransLink is currently implementing its most significant bus service expansion since 2018. This fall, the transit authority increased service across 53 routes, including 26 routes that serve post-secondary institutions in the region.
For those seeking employment opportunities and regularly using public transit, the full list of employers participating in the Transit-Friendly Employer program is available through TransLink’s resources. This innovative program showcases a collective effort to enhance public transit access while contributing to environmental sustainability in Metro Vancouver.
