AARP Launches Driver Safety Course at IVCC on September 8
The AARP is set to conduct a comprehensive driver safety course at the Illinois Valley Community College (IVCC) on September 8, 2023. This program will run from 08:30 to 12:30 at the Truck Drivers Training Center located at 815 N. Orlando Smith Rd., Oglesby, Illinois. Interested participants can register by calling 815-224-0427.
This driver safety program serves as an important educational opportunity specifically tailored for individuals aged 50 and above. The AARP Driver Safety Program combines both classroom instruction and online resources to refresh critical driving skills. Key topics include adapting to changes in road conditions, reviewing effective driving strategies, and understanding the impact of aging on driving capabilities. Participants will also learn about new technologies and how to remain safe and smart on the road.
Upon completing the course, participants will receive a certificate that they can present to their auto insurance companies. This may qualify them for a premium discount, providing a financial incentive for attending the program. The course fee is $20 for AARP members and $25 for non-members, which covers materials and is payable directly to AARP. Importantly, the course is offered free of charge to those enrolled in United Health Care Insurance.
This initiative underscores AARP’s commitment to enhancing the safety and driving competence of older adults. By equipping them with updated knowledge and skills, the program aims to foster greater confidence on the road, ensuring that participants can navigate their driving responsibilities effectively.
As the population ages, programs like these become increasingly vital in promoting road safety for senior drivers, who often face unique challenges. The AARP Driver Safety Program not only provides essential educational resources but also encourages community engagement among older adults in Oglesby and surrounding areas.
