Brandon University and Assiniboine College Host Exciting Events
Brandon University and Assiniboine College are bustling with a variety of events this week, showcasing the vibrant community and artistic talent of the region. Highlights include art exhibitions, musical performances, and unique storytelling sessions, engaging students and the broader public alike.
Brandon University’s Cultural Offerings
On December 1, 2025, the IshKaabatens Waasa Gaa Inaabateg Department of Visual Art at Brandon University will feature a talk by Kevin McKenzie, an assistant professor with a distinguished 30-year career in the arts. McKenzie’s work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally, and his pieces are part of prominent collections, including those at the National Art Gallery of Canada and the MacKenzie Art Gallery. This event is set to take place at 11:30 a.m. and is expected to attract art enthusiasts and students alike.
In addition to the speaker series, the BU Brass Ensemble will perform a Christmas concert tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the Lorne Watson Recital Hall. Other musical highlights include the BU Concert Choir and the BU Chorale performing on December 3 at 7:30 p.m. at Knox United Church. The week concludes with the BU Piano Ensemble showcasing their talents on December 5 at 4:30 p.m. at the Lorne Watson Recital Hall. The Glen P. Sutherland Gallery of Art is currently exhibiting a showcase of visual art projects from students enrolled in four different courses. The gallery will be open from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. from Wednesday to Saturday.
Brandon University Theatre is set to present the dark comedy with music, “Mother Courage and her Children,” from December 3 to December 7. Evening shows will begin at 7 p.m. each night, with a matinee at 2 p.m. on December 8. More details regarding the show and ticket availability can be found at Events.BrandonU.ca.
Assiniboine College’s Engaging Activities
At Assiniboine College, the community can participate in Storytelling Week, which runs from December 1 to December 5. This event features daily sessions where elders and speakers share personal narratives and cultural stories, allowing attendees to connect with their heritage and understand the importance of storytelling in various cultures.
The college is also hosting its popular Holiday Buffet, although this year’s event has already reached full capacity. Those interested in future events can learn more by visiting assiniboine.net/events.
Additionally, a Trades Program Mixer will take place on December 4 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Mazer Group Main Street in the Len Evans Centre for Trades & Technology. This event will allow students to network and explore opportunities within the trades sector.
The college’s Alumni Association is preparing for its annual Retiree Holiday Coffee Party, scheduled for December 10 at 9:30 a.m. at the Victoria Avenue East campus. More information regarding this gathering is available on the college’s website.
