Brandon University (BU) is set to host a variety of engaging events this week, with a focus on the fall equinox. The university will feature discussions, art presentations, and a national conference that aim to foster community engagement and cultural understanding.

On September 22, 2025, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Gathering Space of the John E. Robbins Library will welcome attendees for a discussion led by BU Knowledge Keepers. This event will explore the significance of the fall equinox as a time for gratitude, reflection, and preparation for the upcoming colder months. All community members are invited to participate in this enriching experience.

The Canadian Rural Revitalization Foundation will hold its National Conference at Brandon University from September 22 to 25. This event will bring together researchers, policymakers, and community leaders from across Canada to discuss rural information and transformation. More details can be found at CRRF2025.org.

Cultural events will also feature prominently this month, as part of the Indigenous Arts Speaker Series. On September 28, Cheryl L’Hirondelle, an acclaimed singer-songwriter and artist, will speak at the Glen P. Sutherland Gallery of Art at 7 p.m. Her work emphasizes the Cree language and blends Indigenous and contemporary songwriting. Following this, on September 29, KC Adams, a Winnipeg-based artist known for her photography, will present at 11:30 a.m. in Room 206 of Clark Hall. Adams has been recognized for her contributions to the arts, with pieces from her Cyborg Hybrid series included in the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa.

In addition to cultural discussions, the Science Seminar Series will continue this Friday, September 29, with a presentation by Hamid Mumin from BU’s Department of Geology. The seminar will take place at 2:30 p.m. in Room 4-47 of the John R. Brodie Science Centre, focusing on the impact of evolutionary earth changes on global temperature and carbon dioxide levels.

Meanwhile, the BU soccer teams will be competing on the road this weekend, with matches scheduled in Winnipeg on September 23 and in Otterburne on September 24. Both teams will return home for games on October 4 and 5, providing fans with more opportunities to support their athletes.

At Assiniboine College, the Assiniboine Students’ Association will host an Orange Shirt Day event on September 29, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at all campus locations. This event serves to honor the memory of residential school survivors and promote awareness of the impacts of the residential school system.

The Assiniboine/BU Medical Walk-In Service will resume on September 27, providing students with access to a range of medical services. These clinics are held on Wednesdays at the Victoria Avenue East campus from 12 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Students are advised to bring their insurance cards.

In celebration of the fall season, all Indigenous students, staff, and their families are invited to a Fall Feast at the Victoria Avenue East campus on September 22 at 5:30 p.m. This gathering aims to celebrate the community and mark the equinox.

Tickets are now available for the Assiniboine Advancement Dinner, an event dedicated to recognizing the achievements of alumni. This celebration highlights the leadership and innovation of graduates whose contributions impact Manitoba and beyond.

Sports enthusiasts can look forward to the Cougars Soccer teams facing off against Providence University College on September 23 at Cougars Field, followed by a match against the Canadian Mennonite University on September 24. Game times can be found at assiniboine.net/athletics.

As Brandon University and Assiniboine College continue to foster community engagement through these events, students and residents alike are encouraged to participate in and support the diverse offerings available this fall.
