Brandon University Hosts Holiday Events and Speaker Series This Week

Brandon University is buzzing with activities this week, featuring a speaker series and various performances as the year comes to a close. The IshKaabatens Waasa Gaa Inaabateg Department of Visual Art is set to host Kevin McKenzie today at 11:30 a.m.. McKenzie, an assistant professor at the university, brings over 30 years of experience in art, having exhibited nationally and internationally. His work is part of notable collections, including the National Art Gallery of Canada.

In addition to the speaker series, the Healthy Living Centre will remain lively tonight with the Holiday Hoops Camp. Running from 6 to 8 p.m., this camp is open to youth in grades 3 to 10 and welcomes participants of all skill levels. Registration can be completed with a monetary donation or a new, unwrapped toy. Several musical ensembles at Brandon University will also present their final performances of the fall term this week. The BU Brass Ensemble will deliver a Christmas concert tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the Lorne Watson Recital Hall. Following this, the BU Concert Choir and BU Chorale will perform at Knox United Church on Wednesday, starting at 7:30 p.m.. The week culminates with the BU Piano Ensemble’s fall-term finale on Thursday at 4:30 p.m., again at the Lorne Watson Recital Hall. A showcase of visual art created by students is also taking place this week at the Glen P. Sutherland Gallery of Art. This exhibition features works from students across four different courses, with gallery hours from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday.

In theatre, Brandon University is presenting “Mother Courage and her Children,” a dark comedy with music, from Wednesday to Sunday. Showtimes are scheduled for 7 p.m. from Wednesday to Saturday, with a matinee at 2 p.m. on Sunday at the Evans Theatre. Assiniboine College Celebrates Storytelling Week

Meanwhile, Assiniboine College is hosting its Storytelling Week, running from Monday to Friday. This event features elders and speakers sharing personal and cultural stories, providing insights into their journeys and the significance of storytelling. The college is also preparing for its annual Holiday Buffet, which has already sold out. Future events hosted by the Manitoba Institute of Culinary Arts can be found on its website.

Additionally, Assiniboine College will hold a Trades Program Mixer on December 4 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Len Evans Centre for Trades & Technology. This event aims to connect students and industry professionals.
