Brandon University Welcomes Students Back with Exciting Events
Brandon University has resumed classes following the fall break, marking a busy week filled with events aimed at enriching the student experience. The university will host the Long Night Against Procrastination on November 17, providing students a dedicated space to study and write at the John E. Robbins Library from 19:00 to 02:00. This initiative offers a safe environment with snacks and academic support during a crucial period in the semester.
Academic and Cultural Engagements
This week also features a significant academic event as Rory Lucyshyn-Wright from the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science presents in the Science Seminar Series. His lecture on category theory, axiomatics, and abstraction in mathematics will take place on November 19 at 14:30 in Room 4-47 of the John R. Brodie Science Centre. The talk will also be accessible online, providing opportunities for broader engagement.
On the sports front, the Bobcats basketball teams are set to compete against the Regina Cougars this weekend. The women’s team will play on November 18 at 18:00, followed by the men’s game at 20:00. The action continues on November 19 with the women tipping off at 17:00 and the men at 19:00.
Additionally, the university will host a Canada Music Week concert on November 22 at 15:00 in the RD Bell Hall of the BU Music building. This concert, organized by the Brandon and Westman Registered Music Teachers’ Association, will showcase music students celebrating Canadian composers, with admission by donation.
Upcoming Performances and Initiatives at Assiniboine College
Assiniboine College is preparing for its own set of exciting activities. A Multicultural Food & Fashion Show is scheduled for November 17 at 12:00, inviting participants to model cultural attire and enjoy a vibrant celebration of community. The event is designed to promote inclusivity and cultural awareness among students.
Students are also encouraged to attend the Annual General Meeting of the Assiniboine Students’ Association on the same day, from 15:45 to 17:30 in the Cafeteria Classroom at the Victoria East Campus. This meeting will provide students with insight into the association’s initiatives and future plans.
In line with supporting student welfare, the Assiniboine College Students’ Association (ACSA) has launched a Food Security Initiative. On November 20, students can create a mini hamper for just $5 at the ACSA Event Space/Crossroads, promoting accessibility to essential food items.
Students can also look forward to a holiday feast on December 3 and 4, featuring a buffet dinner and a dessert room with locally sourced food from the college’s North Hill campus.
Sports enthusiasts can catch the Cougars women’s hockey team as they face off against the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire at the Brandon Community Sportsplex. Details regarding game times can be found on the college’s athletics website or through their social media channels.
Brandon University and Assiniboine College are set to provide students with an enriching week, filled with academic lectures, cultural celebrations, and sporting events, fostering a vibrant campus atmosphere.
