Campbell River Students Set for Exciting International Trips
Students from School District 72 in Campbell River will have the opportunity to embark on several international trips during the current school year. The planned travel aims to enhance cultural experiences and educational enrichment for secondary students. According to Geoff Manning, the superintendent of SD72, these trips are currently pending approval as initial paperwork has been submitted.
Upcoming Destination Highlights
At Carihi Secondary, students may participate in two trips this upcoming spring. One trip is scheduled for March 2024 to Costa Rica, focusing on cultural enrichment, while another trip will take students to England for a soccer experience. Manning noted the enthusiasm among students and staff regarding these opportunities.
Similarly, students from Timberline Secondary will join the cultural exchange in England, but their focus will be on a musical theatre trip. Notably, this group opted to cancel a previously planned trip to New York City, choosing instead to travel to London. Manning cited current political considerations as a factor influencing this decision.
Long-standing Exchange Program
In addition to these new adventures, a traditional student exchange with the Japanese city of Ishikari will resume this year. Four students from Campbell River will travel to Ishikari, located in the Hokkaido prefecture. The sister city relationship has been in place since 1983, fostering cultural ties and mutual understanding between the communities.
These travel opportunities not only promise to enhance students’ educational experiences but also aim to build lasting friendships across borders. The district looks forward to receiving final approvals and sharing further details as the trips approach.
