The DeKalb County Economic Development Corporation (DCEDC) is set to host its annual breakfast aimed at fostering connections among community leaders, educators, and business partners on December 2, 2023. The event will take place from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Faranda’s, located at 302 Grove St., DeKalb. This gathering provides an opportunity for attendees to engage with various partners across the county and gain insights into regional economic momentum.

A key highlight of the breakfast will be a fireside chat titled “Collaboration and Connection in Action: Powering Economic Growth and Strengthening Communities.” Scheduled to begin at 9:15 a.m., this session features prominent leaders from local higher education institutions, including Lisa Freeman, President of Northern Illinois University; Laurie Borowicz, President of Kishwaukee College; and Brian Knetl, President of Waubonsee Community College. The discussion, moderated by Melissa Amedeo, Executive Director of DCEDC, will focus on collaborative efforts among colleges to align local professional development with broader statewide and regional economic strategies.

Amedeo emphasized the importance of investing in education at all levels, stating, “When we invest in learning at every level, beginning with pre-Kindergarten, we have the power to create opportunities, not just for individuals, but for our entire community.” She noted that pathways to meaningful careers—whether through a four-year university, community college, apprenticeship programs, or certification courses—can significantly enhance local neighborhoods and contribute to sustained economic stability and growth.

In addition to the fireside chat, Amedeo will present DCEDC’s annual report at 10 a.m.. This report will outline key accomplishments, provide updates on significant economic development initiatives, and preview priorities for 2026.

For those interested in attending the breakfast or seeking further information, registration is available at the official DCEDC website: DCEDC.org/events. This event offers a valuable platform for collaboration and networking, as the DeKalb community continues to advance its economic objectives through education and partnership.
